new build

Postby CurbShifter » November 14th, 2012, 7:54 am

I'm going to build myself a new system. The aim is fast but silent. (big box big cooler). Not going to OC, i'll be working on this machine too, so it needs to be stable.
Still not sure if I will transplant my GTX560 to it. Or get an GTX660...or get an comparable ATI that uses the pcix 3.0 ..

I'm putting this components list down here to be scrutinised. If something doesn't seem right, incompatible or heard bad stories about the components, plz post it.

You'll need a dual-channel memory kit, not a quad-channel one. I'd keep your current GTX 560 and get a second one for SLI use. Cheaper and faster.
My Desktop Build
Core i7-2600K @ 4GHz, 16GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, ASUS GTX 1060 6GB, 120GB SSD, 1TB HDD, Z68A-GD80

I was gonna suggest SLI,
although I didn't like the processor, I'm sure you could get an AMD Opteron 8 core for $400 in black friday
if you can't still afford and 8 core amd get this: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu ... 60GHz&id=8
it's a little better than the one you chose core i-7 3770k @3.40
and kinda a few dollars more expensive

Ya the Ivy Bridge cpu's run way hot, its the glue over solder that makes it kinda shitty... Too bad too cause the chips are badass..

The Nactua is a great air cooler, but there is one that cools quite a bit better if you want air.

All the info you need to know even if you want to slightly over clock it.. ;)

Also @ Besweeet. I thought the IB took quad channel, but looks like its only dual channel (according to guru3d).. Hmm what the fuck takes quad channel then.......

Also, just wait on the video card... New ones coming out soon......
The new nvidia 700 and ati 8000 series are going to be bad ass..... up to 25% faster then the current cards some might be even more..

There's always something faster around the corner. No point in waiting.

Quad-channel's for Sandy Bridge E, hence why their motherboards have 8 slots.

I forgot about sandybridge E

Yes there is always something faster around the corner, but if its only a month or so away why not wait and get the latest and greatest if you can wait a month or 2. a 560 should last :) from what i hear the gtx760 will be as fast as the gtx680... Might even be faster................................ :P

I am saving and waiting for this..
